The Daily Nole — Sept. 14, 2018: FSU Soccer Hosts North Carolina in Top-10 Shootout

It’s Friday, Florida State fans. As the weekend and game day nears, keep it here for the latest in FSU athletics. The news and notes section of this post will be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

After an undefeated non-conference slate, No. 2 Florida State will open ACC play with its third top-10 match-up in 15 days.

FSU will host No. 6 North Carolina on Friday night. The Tar Heels are 5-2-1 on the season with losses to Santa Clara and top-ranked Stanford.

Julia Ashley leads the Tar Heels with six total points and is one of five players for North Carolina with two goals this season. Rachael Dorwart leads the team with three assists. Yujie Zhao, a freshman, leads FSU with 10 points this season while the defense led by Natalia Kuikka and goalkeeper Brooke Bollinger are yielding the fewest goals per game in the country.

The match begins at 7 p.m. EST and airs on ACC Network Extra.

Between the Lines

There were no FSU athletic events scheduled for Thursday.

On the Agenda

In addition to the FSU soccer match, FSU men’s golf begins the OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational on Friday. FSU men’s tennis begins the fall season with the Thomasville Collegiate Invite. FSU cross country will be at Boston University.

Athlon Sports predicts that Syracuse will defeat Florida State on Saturday, 34-31.
