Report: Starting OT Landon Dickerson Out For Extended Time

An already struggling unit for Florida State football will be without its best player for at least a month, according to a report from Warchant. Starting tackle Landon Dickerson will miss the next few games due to an ankle injury suffered against Virginia Tech.

Dickerson has been a mainstay on the offensive line since he enrolled in 2016 as a highly sought-after recruit. Both his 2016 and 2017 seasons ended prematurely due to injuries, but in limited time, Dickerson was praised as the best player on the offensive line. He entered 2018 as the starting right tackle and initially looked like he would be one of the lone bright spots for the upcoming season.

It didn’t last long. Dickerson limped off the field a little over midway through the game against Virginia Tech on Monday night, and he was held out for the rest of contest. Head coach Willie Taggart said in interviews this week that Dickerson had suffered an ankle injury, and that the team was going to take it slow while it figured out the issue. It turns out that the injury was more serious than previously thought, and now Dickerson will not be returning to the lineup until at least the end of September.

Florida State’s offensive line will once again need to find answers. The assumption in preseason was that if the starting offensive line remained healthy, the unit would get better as the season went on. They have now lost two starters to injury in Dickerson and starting guard Cole Minshew. Both are expected to make their returns later this year. Minshew is probable for Saturday’s game against Samford.

Senior guard Derrick Kelly is expected to move out to right tackle, with either Cole Minshew or Mike Arnold taking the right guard spot. Arthur Williams will remain in the other guard spot, while Alec Eberle stays at center and Jauan Williams returns at left tackle.
