The Daily Nole — Aug. 31, 2018: Throwback End Zones for FSU’s Labor Day Opener

It’s Friday, Florida State fans, which means we’re just one day away from a full day of college football. Keep it here for the latest in FSU athletics. The news and notes section of this post will be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

Bobby Bowden, Frank Beamer, the retirement of Peter Warrick’s jersey and now, throwback end zones.

Those are among the things that will take place for Monday night’s Labor Day opener between Florida State and Virginia Tech. The throwback end zones were announced on Thursday.

FSU used the throwback look with white end zones, unpainted edges and the words painted underneath the spear until 2007 before going to the garnet end zones the following year. The Seminoles did feature the throwback end zones during the spring game.

Between the Lines

There were no FSU athletic events scheduled for Thursday.

On the Agenda

FSU volleyball will take on TCU on Friday as part of the Colorado State Tournament. FSU cross country will be in Durham to open the year at the Covered Bridge Open. FSU soccer hosts USC in a top-10 match-up. The soccer match starts at 7 p.m. EST and airs on ACC Network Extra.

News and Notes

FSU head coach Willie Taggart listed his program expectations in a piece for The Players’ Tribune.

FSU quarterback Bailey Hockman will reportedly transfer, leaving the Seminoles with two scholarship quarterbacks.
