3-star offensive tackle Charles Cross committed to Florida State during the Saturday Night Live recruiting event.

Cross is a 6-foot-5, 285-pound lineman from Laurel, Mississippi. The two main competitors for his services were the hometown schools Ole Miss and Mississippi State. FSU was somewhat late in his recruitment, but made a strong impression and convinced him to camp in Tallahassee back on June 16th. He earned an offer that same day.

Cross is a similar prospect to Jalen Goss in the 2018 class. Both tackle prospects have very high ceilings and show great quickness on tape. But neither have filled out their frame and consequently still have offseason work to do before they’re ready to see the field. FSU hopes that Cross can start pushing for playing time in 2020. If he puts on good weight during his senior season and continues developing, he could be an option in 2019.

FSU can’t afford to be picky when it comes to offensive tackle recruits in this cycle. The only elite, realistic option is 5-star Evan Neal. His recruitment is very competitive, with Alabama and Miami making him a priority. The Seminoles are also somewhat thin at tackle depth on the roster, so Cross’ commitment does alleviate some of those concerns.

Cross is ranked as the 56th best offensive tackle recruit and the 589th overall recruit, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. He is the first commitment to come from the Saturday Night Live event. He brings Florida State’s recruiting class to 14th in the nation and second in the ACC.
