Florida State beach volleyball’s Vanessa Freire narrowly missed becoming a national champion, but she is a nominee for something else.

According to a release, the recent graduate is among the nominees for NCAA Woman of the Year. Over her career in Tallahassee, the Seminoles won three CCSA championships and reached the national championship dual twice.

The award, established in 1991, is for graduating athletes who excel when it comes to athletics, leadership, service and academics. The winner will be announced on Oct. 28 in Indianapolis.
