In 71 years of football, Florida State has defeated teams from 33 of the 50 U.S. states. That goes to 34 of 51 if you included the nation’s capital, where the Seminoles knocked off George Washington in 1961 by a 15-7 score.

The latest state to be added to the list was Delaware after the Seminoles stomped Delaware State last season on Senior Day, 77-6. Still, there are 17 states where FSU has never defeated a school from. In most cases, it just hasn’t had the opportunity.

Here’s a look:

Alaska
This one being on the list is no surprise since no schools from Alaska field an FBS or FCS program. During the 1980s, FSU did defeat Alaska-Anchorage in both men’s and women’s basketball.

Arkansas
Arkansas has a number of Division I college programs and two FBS schools, but the Seminoles have never faced a school from Arkansas in football.

Connecticut
Florida State and Connecticut are set to see each other in men’s hoops for an eighth time this coming season, but the schools have never faced each other on the gridiron.

Hawaii
A lot of FSU programs have played schools from Hawaii and many have traveled for such contests. On the football field however, the Seminoles just haven’t had that opportunity.

Maine
As is the case with each of the other states listed, FSU just hasn’t had the opportunity to play a school from Maine in football. Against the University of Maine, FSU is a combined 21-0 head-to-head in all other sports.

Minnesota
FSU and Minnesota have seen a lot of each other across the sports spectrum, but on the gridiron, the Seminoles and Golden Gophers have never met. During the ACC/Big Ten Challenge in men’s basketball, Minnesota has been FSU’s most common opponent. Florida State just hasn’t played a team from the Gopher State yet in football.

Missouri
During the most recent NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament, FSU made sure Missouri’s stay in the dance was a short one, but the teams have never met on the gridiron. The University of Missouri is one of three SEC programs that the Seminoles have never faced along with Arkansas and Vanderbilt.

Montana
FSU has faced Montana and Montana State in both men’s and women’s basketball. The Seminoles also faced Montana in volleyball. A football match-up with a team from Big Sky Country has yet to come to fruition.

New Hampshire
FSU thumped New Hampshire 104-52 in men’s basketball on New Year’s Eve 1968. That’s the only athletic match-up between FSU and a team from the state of New Hampshire.

New Jersey
FSU opened the 1993 national championship season at the state, which is the birthplace of college football, beating Kansas 42-0 in East Rutherford. The Seminoles however, have never faced a team from New Jersey in football. FSU hoops recently traveled to Rutgers for an ACC/Big Ten Challenge victory, but it hasn’t faced the Scarlet Knights on the gridiron.

North Dakota
North Dakota State is the premier FCS program in the country, but no team from the state has ever faced FSU. Softball and volleyball are the only two sports where FSU has seen a team from North Dakota.

Oregon
Florida State has played just one ever contest against a school from the state of Oregon and that was a 59-20 shellacking at the webbed feet of the Oregon Ducks in the 2015 Rose Bowl. New FSU head coach Willie Taggart comes to Tallahassee from Eugene. FSU softball recently ended No. 1 Oregon’s season in the Women’s College World Series.

Rhode Island
The smallest state in the United States, Rhode Island has just one major university. That university has never faced FSU in football.

South Dakota
As is the case with most schools on the list, FSU has never faced a team from the state of South Dakota on the gridiron. Against South Dakota and South Dakota State, Florida State is 5-0 all-time in other sports.

Vermont
A 76-67 win in men’s basketball in 1976 is the only ever athletic contest between FSU and Vermont’s flagship university. Vermont doesn’t field a football team.

Washington
The final head-to-head contest of the recent athletic year for Florida State saw the Seminoles top Washington in softball, 8-3, for their first fastpitch national championship. Despite success for both Washington and Washington State on the gridiron over the last 30 years, neither have ever met the Seminoles.

Wyoming
Unlike most other states on the list, FSU has faced Wyoming before, but did not come up successful. The Cowboys topped the Seminoles 28-20 in the 1966 Sun Bowl. The Cowboys also topped Florida State in volleyball in 1990 in the only other athletic contest between the schools.
