Lead Story

Each of Florida State’s two coordinators ranked in the top 10 in Athlon Sports’ list of the 30 coordinator hires for 2018.

Defensive coordinator Harlon Barnett was ranked eighth on the list — one spot behind offensive coordinator Walt Bell, who ranked seventh. Barnett comes over from his alma mater Michigan State after leading the Spartans to a top-10 defense in 2017. Only 34 years old, Bell has spent the last two years at Maryland.

Barnett will replace Charles Kelly and also coach the defensive backs. Bell, also the quarterbacks coach, will replace former quarterbacks coach Randy Sanders, who shared the offensive coordinator duties with former wide receivers coach Lawrence Dawsey.
