We won’t have to wait long to learn whether or not Florida State can extend its winning streak over rival Florida to five games.

According to a release, the Seminoles and Gators will kick off the 2018-19 men’s basketball season against one another at the Donald L. Tucker Center on Nov. 6. It is the first time since the 2001-02 season that the teams squared off to open the year. The Gators won that contest, 68-47.

The contest could pit ranked teams against one another. The Seminoles are coming off their first Elite Eight appearance in 25 years. Florida reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament before falling in a hard-fought contest to Texas Tech.

FSU handled the Gators last season in Gainesville, 83-66, to run its winning streak over Florida to four games — the longest such streak in school-history over its rivals. The Seminoles notched an 83-78 victory in Florida’s last trip to Tallahassee in December 2016.
