Florida State football received a surprise commitment on Wednesday afternoon, when 4-star defensive end Derick Hunter committed to the Seminoles.

A 6-foot-4, 275-pound prospect from Dunbar High School in Fort Myers, Hunter chose FSU over the likes of Georgia, Florida, Miami and Clemson among many others. Hunter is ranked by the 247Sports Composite rankings as the No. 205 overall prospect for 2019 and the 15th best strongside end.

With the addition of Hunter, FSU climbs a spot from 13th to 12th in the national rankings, according to the Composite. The Seminoles currently sit at third in the ACC behind Clemson and rival Miami.

Overall, Hunter is the 11th member of the class for the Seminoles and third blue-chip defensive end. Others consist of Mike Morris and Quashon Fuller, both 4-stars.

Hunter is the highest ranked of the three and the third-highest ranked prospect of the class behind cornerback Akeem Dent and quarterback Sam Howell. Hunter could be used as a three-technique defensive tackle at the next level.
