Florida State starting pitcher Cole Sands will have the opportunity to take his talents to the professional level.

Sands, a junior from Tallahassee, was selected with the 154th pick in the 2018 Major League Baseball Draft by the Minnesota Twins. Sands was taken in the fifth round and is the second Seminole selected thus far.

Sands battled through injuries as a junior, but finished the 2018 season with a 7-4 record and 4.54 ERA. Sands, a hard-throwing right-hander, finished the season with 88 strikeouts in 75 1/3 innings of work.

Sands possesses a plus-fastball, but did tend to struggle with giving up the big inning. He will have the option to return for a senior season in 2019.
