Cal Raleigh, Drew Parrish Named All-Americans by Collegiate Baseball

Florida State catcher Cal Raleigh and pitcher Drew Parrish were both named second-team All-Americans by Collegiate Baseball on Thursday afternoon.

Raleigh has experienced a bounce-back season after a disappointing sophomore campaign. In 2016, he was named a Freshman All-American across the board, leading most to believe that he would improve in 2017. Instead, he regressed at the plate and received no accolades from national publications.

He turned it around this season. The junior catcher has regained his hitting prowess with 73 hits, 13 home runs, and 54 RBIs so far. While his performance at catcher has seen mixed results, it is not enough to take away from the offensive boost he provides.

Parrish flew under the radar for much of the season, but he’s been as good as anyone on the mound. He has started 15 games and holds a 5-0 record to go along with a 2.47 ERA. That’s a stark improvement from his freshman year in 2017 when he recorded a 4.52 ERA. Parrish’s 121 strikeouts are the second most of any pitcher on the second team.

As NCAA postseason play begins, publications will start releasing their full All-American team selections. Collegiate Baseball was the first of the major sources, followed shortly after by Baseball America. The two other organizations to look for are the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) and D1Baseball.com.

In the Baseball America list, Raleigh was named a third-team All-American. He was the only Seminole player chosen.

Florida State baseball hosts the Tallahassee Regional for the 2018 NCAA Tournament. The Seminoles’ first game will be against the Samford Bulldogs on Friday at 7 p.m. EST. The game will be broadcast on ESPNU. For more information, check out our regional preview.
