The Daily Nole — May 21, 2018: FSU Women’s Golf Advances to Fourth Round

Lead Story

Florida State’s women’s golf advanced to play a fourth round at the NCAA Championships in Stillwater on Sunday, but to move on to match play, the Seminoles have some work to do.

Although FSU was among the top 15 teams in Stillwater, it fell three spots from sixth place to ninth and will need to get to eighth to partake it match play on Tuesday. As a team, Florida State is +30 — three strokes back of eighth-place Kent State and four back of seventh-place Stanford.

Of the teams to advance to the fourth round, only Louisville had a worse Sunday than Florida State. Alabama leads overall at -2 as a team.

Individually, Kim Metraux leads Florida State at -1, which is tied for fifth place overall. Her sister, Morgane Metraux, is tied for 10th at even par. Alabama’s Cheyenne Knight and Wake Forest’s Jennifer Kupcho are tied for the individual lead at -7. The fourth round takes place on Monday.

Between the Lines

In addition to FSU women’s golf, FSU softball blanked Jacksonville State 10-0 to advance to the NCAA Super Regionals.

On the Agenda

Golf is the only scheduled FSU athletic event for Monday.

News and Notes

The ACC will name players of the week for various sports.

FSU moved up to No. 9 in this week’s D1Baseball Poll and to 13th in the Baseball America Poll. FSU moved up six spots to No. 16 in the Collegiate Baseball Poll and four spots to No. 7 in the NCBWA Poll.

FSU softball will host LSU in the Super Regional at 7 p.m. EST on Friday, 5 p.m. EST on Saturday and 3 p.m. EST on Sunday — if necessary. The first and final games would air on ESPNU. The middle game will air on ESPN2.

FSU catcher Cal Raleigh and pitcher Drew Parrish were each named first-team All-ACC. Drew Mendoza and Jackson Lueck earned third-team honors. Pitcher C.J. Van Eyk earned All-Freshman team honors.

FSU women’s golf finished 12th at the NCAA Championships on Monday.
