FSU Golf: John Pak Wins ACC Freshman of the Year

Florida State men’s golf received another honor on Thursday afternoon when John Pak was named the ACC Freshman of the Year.

Pak currently ranks as the second-best freshman in the country according to Golfstat’s player rankings. His 70.50 scoring average is the second lowest in a full year at FSU. He has finished in the top 5 four different times this season and Top-10 eight times. Pak also won Florida State’s home tournament, the Seminole Intercollegiate, back in late February.

Pak becomes the fourth Seminole golfer to receive the prestigious award. Past winners include U.S. Open champion Brooks Koepka in 2009, Hank Lebioda in 2013, and Jack Maguire in 2014.

He is joined by teammate Harry Ellis as the representatives on the All-ACC team. Ellis became the 10th Seminole to earn multiple All-ACC selections after helping win the Marquette Intercollegiate in October and the Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate in February. Ellis has played in the 2017 Open Championship, the 2018 Masters, and will participate in the the upcoming 2018 U.S. Open.

Florida State golf currently ranks 22nd in the nation and is preparing for the an NCAA Golf Regional next week in Norman, Oklahoma. This is Florida State’s 13th consecutive year of making an NCAA Regional.
