All eyes turned to Court 4 at the ACC Tournament on Thursday, which is where 13th-seeded Virginia Tech was able to collect a second-round upset over No. 5 seed Florida State, 4-3.

The match was decided in the decisive third set on Court 4 as Nika Kozar of Virginia Tech rallied to beat FSU’s Gabriella Castaneda, 5-7, 7-6, 6-1. Kozar forced the third set with a tiebreak victory in the second set.

Virginia Tech started strong by earning the doubles point and winning on Court 1 to go up 2-0 in Cary, North Carolina. Natalie Novotna topped FSU’s Carla Touly, 6-0, 6-4.

FSU won the next three matches to go ahead as Ariana Rahmanparast, Andrea Garcia and Nandini Das all won in straight sets for the Seminoles. Virginia Tech’s Carolina Daxhelet topped Florida State’s Petra Hule, 1-6, 7-5, 6-3 to keep her team alive and make the match on Court 4 the decisive one.

The Hokies will move on to play fourth-seeded Miami on Friday in the ACC Quarterfinals. Florida State will wait to learn its NCAA Tournament fate on Tuesday.
