The 2019 recruiting class for Florida State football is off to a great start. 3-star athlete Travis Jay from Madison, Florida reportedly committed to the Seminoles on Tuesday afternoon.

Jay is listed as an athlete right now, but there’s a strong chance that he shifts fully to safety for recruiting purposes. He looks natural in that position and will almost certainly play it in college.

Jay has impressive physical abilities, including a surprising vertical and great burst when he spots the ball. His current ranking (426th overall, 40th athlete per the 247Sports composite) is not an accurate indicator of where he stands nationally. Jay will likely finish as a high 4-star when the process is concluded.

Rumors swirled about a possible commitment when offensive line coach Greg Frey tweeted out, “We just got better! Spring break is off to a great start!!!” The Seminoles had multiple recruits on campus for unofficial visits.

His commitment brings Florida State’s 2019 class up to 11th nationally and 2nd in the ACC, according to the 247Sports composite ratings. Jay is the first athlete commit and the second defensive back commit of the class.
