FSU athletics

It’s Sunday, Florida State fans. As you wrap up your weekend, keep it here for the latest in FSU athletics. The news and notes section of this post will be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

Florida State track and field athlete Michael Hall became just the third Seminole ever to run a sub-4-minute mile at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational in Boston on Saturday.

Hall joins Tom Lancashire in 2006 and David Forrester in 2012 as the only three FSU track and field athletes to do so. The redshirt junior Hall’s memorable run was good enough for a fifth place finish, according to a release.

“I knew there were going to be a lot of fast guys and things were going to go,” Hall said per the release. “I was thinking, ‘Let’s just get after it and go. They were going to pull me through. I’ve just got to get on the train and fight through the pain.’”

Hall’s final time was 3:59.17. FSU track and field athletes also participated in the Tyson Invitational in Arkansas and at the University of Washington.

Between the Lines

In addition to track and field on Saturday, FSU softball defeated Texas State 8-0 and Portland State 11-1. FSU men’s tennis defeated Florida A&M 4-0 and The Citadel, 6-1. The women beat Florida Atlantic 6-1 and Mercer, 4-0. FSU women’s golf finished fifth at the Florida State Match-Up. FSU men’s basketball was defeated by Notre Dame on Saturday, 84-69.

On the Agenda

FSU women’s basketball will take on Miami in Coral Gables on Sunday at 4 p.m. EST. The contest airs on ESPN2.

News and Notes

FSU’s softball game with Sam Houston State has been canceled because of forecast inclement weather.

FSU basketball is currently in ninth place in the ACC.
