3-Star Wide Receiver Keyshawn Helton Commits to Florida State

Florida State’s receiver depth chart continues to get filled out in the 2018 recruiting cycle. The Seminoles added another one Sunday in 3-star wide receiver Keyshawn Helton out of Pensacola.

Not many had heard of Helton at the beginning of January. He was largely unknown outside of smaller schools like Central Arkansas and Coastal Carolina. That changed around the middle of the month, when two coaches from Tennessee visited Helton and discussed a potential spot on their team. From there, Helton visited South Florida and began to talk to the coaches at Florida State. He visited FSU on Feb. 2 and received an offer there as well.

Helton is another example of a prospect that would’ve been ranked higher if he had more exposure. Right now he is only rated by 247Sports as the 1,171st overall recruit and 170th wide receiver. His tape shows blazing speed and very good hands for a smaller receiver.

Helton is only 5-foot-9 and 160 pounds, which certainly limits his ceiling at the position, but past examples for Florida State show that a player of his size can still find good success. He would still be a 3-star if all the services got a look at him, but he would likely be ranked quite a bit higher.

Helton is the third receiver commit of the 2018 FSU recruiting class. His commitment keeps the Seminoles at 15th in the 247Sports composite rankings.
