The Daily Nole — Dec. 30, 2017: New Year’s Six Bowls Underway

It’s the weekend, Florida State fans. As you get ready to watch the Noles take on Duke and bring in the new year, keep it here for the latest in FSU athletics. The news and notes section of this post will be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

Although Florida State didn’t play in one for the first time since 2011, the New Year’s Six Bowls got underway Friday night with Ohio State topping USC in the Cotton Bowl, 24-7.

J.T. Barrett rushed for two touchdowns for the Buckeyes in the win. USC quarterback Sam Darnold passed for 356 yards, but turned the ball over three times, including an interception that was returned 23 yards for a touchdown by Ohio State’s Damon Webb.

The New Year’s Six bowls resume on Saturday with Washington taking on Penn State in the Fiesta Bowl and Miami playing Wisconsin in the Orange Bowl. FSU opponents from 2017 so far are 3-1 in bowls. The ACC as a whole, is 4-3.

Between the Lines

There were no FSU athletic events scheduled for Friday.

On the Agenda

FSU men’s basketball opens ACC play at Duke on Saturday. The contest begins at 2 p.m. EST and airs on CBS.

Duke defeated Florida State on Saturday, 100-93.
