Florida State’s 26-win season and No. 2 seed in last season’s ACC Tournament wasn’t enough to convince voters that the Seminoles would be in the top half of the conference for the 2017-18 campaign.

Instead, FSU was picked to finish in the middle at eighth by the media on Thursday. Duke was picked to win the conference by garnering 57 of a possible 69 first-place votes.

Reigning national champion North Carolina was picked second and received seven first-place votes. Notre Dame received four first-place votes and was picked third. Fourth-place projected Miami was the only other school to receive a first-place vote with one.

Also ahead of the Seminoles were Louisville, Virginia and Virginia Tech. Georgia Tech and Syracuse were immediately behind FSU.

No Florida State players were selected to the preseason All-ACC team. Notre Dame forward Bonzie Colson was named Preseason ACC Player of the Year.

FSU freshman guard M.J. Walker did receive two votes for Preseason ACC Rookie of the Year. Only Duke’s Marvin Bagley III, who earned the preseason honor, and Miami’s Lonnie Walker IV earned more.

The Seminoles open the regular season on Nov. 14 against George Washington.
