Top-Seeded FSU Softball Opens ACC Tournament vs. Virginia

With a perfect record in ACC play, Florida State has long locked up the top seed in the conference. The Seminoles however, now know who they’ll face in the ACC Tournament.

FSU kicks things off at 11 a.m. EST on Thursday in Chapel Hill against eighth-seeded Virginia. The Cavaliers went 22-31 and 9-15 in ACC play during the regular season. When the teams met for three games in Charlottesville earlier this season from March 24-26, the Seminoles completed the sweep, outscoring Virginia 31-1 over the three games.

FSU finished the regular season 48-6-1. The Seminoles unfortunately were swept by Oregon over the final three games to conclude the year.

All games during the tournament will be shown on Raycom Sports Network, except for Saturday’s championship which will be broadcast at 2 p.m. EST on ESPN. The winner of FSU and Virginia will face the winner of fourth-seeded Boston College and fifth-seeded Notre Dame in the semifinals on Friday.

On the other side of the bracket, second-seeded Louisville opens against No. 7 seed N.C. State on Thursday while No. 3 seed North Carolina faces sixth-seeded Syracuse.

The Seminoles have won three straight ACC titles. With a win on Thursday, FSU would beat the football’s team record for consecutive ACC conference wins, set from 1992-95. with 30. This season, Florida State became just the third Power 5 team ever to go undefeated in conference play.
