The Daily Nole — May 2, 2017: A.J. Alix Transfers to FSU

Lead Story

For Florida State women’s hoops, replacing Leticia Romero won’t be easy, but the Seminoles may have found a candidate to do it.

A.J. Alix, a graduated senior guard, will transfer from TCU to play her final season at Florida State. Alix made the announcement on Sunday night.

Alix led the Horned Frogs last season, averaging more than 13 points and 4.6 assists per game. Alix shot 39 percent from beyond the 3-point line, but about the same percentage from the field. FSU reached the Elite Eight for the third time in school history this past season before falling to eventual national champion South Carolina.

News and Notes

Florida State is No. 2 in ESPN’s latest preseason top 25 behind only Ohio State.

FSU softball was ranked No. 2 in this week’s NFCA Poll. It will face No. 1 Florida on Wednesday.

FSU third baseman Jessica Warren was named ACC Player of the Week while Meghan King was named ACC Pitcher of the Week.

Florida State’s Kellion Knibb earned the ACC Women’s Field Performer of the Week honors. FSU’s Ed’Ricus Williams was recognized for the same honor on the men’s side.

FSU men’s golfer Cristobal Del Solar was named a semifinalist for the Jack Nicklaus Award.

FSU men’s tennis has earned a No. 2 seed and will face Arkansas in Fort Worth on May 12. The FSU women will be a No. 3 seed in Auburn and face Arizona State on May 12 or 13.
