Day No. 2 of the ACC Tennis Tournament in Rome, Georgia was a good one for Florida State. After receiving a single-bye, both the men’s and women’s teams opened the tournament with victories on Thursday and advanced to play on Friday after weather delayed matches for several hours.

The sixth-seeded men started the day on the right foot with a 4-2 win over No. 11 seed Clemson. Lucas Poullain, Terrance Whitehurst and Alex Knaff all won singles matches in straight sets for FSU.

The ninth-seeded FSU women pulled what can be considered an upset as the Seminoles topped No. 8 seed Virginia, 4-2. Daniela Schippers, Ariana Rahmanparast each won singles matches in straight sets while Andrea Garcia needed three sets to take down Virginia’s Teodora Radosavljevic, 6-0, 3-6, 6-2.

Both the men’s and women’s teams took two of the three doubles sets for Florida State.

Action at the ACC Tournament will resume on Friday with contests against North Carolina. The men’s team will face No. 3 seed Tar Heels at 10 a.m. EST. The FSU women will face top-seeded North Carolina at 1 p.m. EST.
