Florida State cruised through the first day of the CCSA Beach Volleyball Championships in Georgia on Friday.

The top-seeded Seminoles beat both No. 9 seed UNC-Wilmington and eighth-seeded Tulane by 5-0 scores. Throughout the day, FSU lost just one total set.

The Seminoles opened the day with a 5-0 win over the Seahawks. The most points UNC-Wilmington scored in any match came in the second set on Court 3 as the FSU combo of Macy Jerger and Sierra Sanchez beat Sarah Kelly and Katie McCullough, 21-15, 21-18.

Against Tulane, the same FSU combination dropped the first set to Tarin Mergerner and Maddy Mertz. The Seminoles however, rallied to win the final two sets and the match, 19-21, 21-17, 15-13.

Florida State will again be in action on Saturday against South Carolina and Florida International. Top-seeded FSU needs to win just one of the two duels to advance to Sunday’s semifinals.
