The Daily Nole — April 15, 2017: FSU Beach Volleyball Rallies Past Pepperdine

It’s Easter weekend, Florida State fans. While you’re enjoying a weekend with your family, keep it here for the latest in FSU athletics. The news and notes section will be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

In a match-up of top 5 beach volleyball teams in Tallahassee on Friday, No. 4 Florida State won the final two matches to down second-ranked Pepperdine, 3-2.

Pepperdine led 2-1 and needed to win the decisive set on either Court 1 or 2 to take the match, but that did not happen. Vanessa Freire and Francesca Goncalves evened things up for FSU by taking the match on Court 2, 21-16, 19-21, 15-11. The combination of Leigh Andrew and Brooke Kuhlman defeated Pepperdine’s Delany Knudsen and Madalyn Roh, 21-19, 16-21, 15-13 to clinch the duel.

FSU returns to action on Saturday with contests against Grand Canyon, Florida International and again, Pepperdine.

Between the Lines

In addition to beach volleyball, FSU women’s golf is tied for second at the ACC Championships. The men’s tennis team was defeated by top-ranked Wake Forest, 5-2. FSU softball dropped a second straight contest, losing at South Carolina, 7-2.

On the Agenda

Aside from beach volleyball, FSU women’s golf will wrap up the ACC Championships. FSU softball will take on South Carolina at 1 p.m. EST on SEC Network+. The FSU men’s tennis team will play at N.C. State. FSU baseball opens a 3-game series against Clemson at 6 p.m. EST on ACC Network Extra.

News and Notes

The first 500 fans to attend Saturday’s baseball game get an FSU J.D. Drew throwback shirt.

FSU’s women’s golf team finished second behind Duke at the ACC Championships.

FSU infielder Tyler Daughtry had a torn ACL and will miss the remainder of the season, according to the school.

FSU rallied from nine runs down to tie the game, but Clemson scored two in the ninth to beat the Seminoles, 12-10.
