The Daily Nole — April 14, 2017: Two Noles Taken in WNBA Draft

It’s Friday, Florida State fans. For those of you focused on the weekend, the news and notes section will be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

While many are looking forward to the NFL Draft, two Florida State players heard their names called on Thursday. Guard Leticia Romero and center Kai James were each selected in the 2017 WNBA Draft held in New York.

Romero, an All-ACC performer, was selected in the second round and 16th overall by the Connecticut Sun. This past season, Romero averaged 12.5 points, four rebounds and 3.7 assists while shooting 49 percent from the field.

James was selected in the third round and 34th overall by the New York Liberty. James as a senior, averaged 3.4 points and 2.6 rebounds. Adut Bulgak was selected by the Liberty last season.

Between the Lines

FSU women’s golf is in third place at the ACC Championships after the first day. On Thursday, FSU women’s tennis shut out both Notre Dame and Florida A&M.

On the Agenda

FSU women’s golf will resume the ACC Championships on Friday. FSU beach volleyball will host Pepperdine. FSU men’s tennis will be at Wake Forest. FSU softball will be at South Carolina in a game that begins at 6 p.m. EST and airs on SEC Network+.

News and Notes

FSU running back Dalvin Cook was not among the 13 players invited to the 2017 NFL Draft in Philadelphia.

Florida State and Oklahoma will meet on the baseball diamond in 2018, according to Ariya Massoudi with ACC Network Extra.

The NCAA approved a 10th assistant coach for FBS programs and a longer recruiting period in December.
