The Daily Nole — March 26, 2017: FSU Softball Stays Undefeated in ACC Play

It’s Sunday, Florida State fans. As your weekend winds down, keep it here for the latest in FSU athletics. The news and notes section will be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

The train that is Florida State’s top-ranked softball team kept rolling on Saturday as the Seminoles stormed through Virginia, 8-0. It was FSU’s fifth shutout in six games as the Seminoles improved to 31-1-1 and a perfect 11-0 ACC play.

The Cavaliers were run-ruled after seven innings. Meghan King allowed just five hits in five shutout innings to pick up the win while Cassidy Davis also tossed a scoreless inning of relief.

At the plate, Dani Morgan hit her second home run of the year for FSU. Jessica Warren and Sydney Broderick each had two hits and a pair of runs. Carsyn Gordon and Zoe Casas each plated a pair of runs.

FSU will go for the sweep of Virginia at noon EST on Sunday in a contest that airs on ACC Network Extra.

Between the Lines

In addition to softball, FSU beach volleyball bounced back from a 4-1 loss to USC to beat Georgia State, 3-2. FSU baseball completed a 3-game sweep of Notre Dame behind a complete game from pitcher Drew Parrish. FSU swimming and diving wrapped up the NCAA Championships. The FSU women’s basketball team advanced to the Elite Eight with a 66-53 win over Oregon State in the NCAA Tournament regional semifinals.

On the Agenda

Aside from softball, the FSU women’s tennis team will be at Pittsburgh while the men host UCF. FSU beach volleyball will be in South Carolina to take on the host Gamecocks and Stetson.

News and Notes

Nike’s The Opening comes to Atlanta for a regional event on Sunday.

The FSU women’s basketball team will take on South Carolina in the Elite Eight at 9 p.m. EST on Monday. The game will air on ESPN.
