The Daily Nole — Feb. 27, 2017: FSU Women Claim No. 2 Seed in ACC Tourney

Lead Story

With the top seed in the ACC Tournament on the line, Florida State women’s basketball team was no match for Notre Dame. Behind 24 points from Brianna Turner, Notre Dame defeated FSU 79-61 in South Bend on Sunday to clinch the top seed in the conference tournament.

Brittany Brown finished with 16 points and six rebounds to lead FSU, but that was not enough. With the loss, FSU falls to the No. 2 seed in the ACC Tournament, which begins on Wednesday in Conway, South Carolina.

The first game for FSU in the tournament will come in the quarterfinal on Friday as the Seminoles will face either seventh-seeded Miami, 10th-seeded Georgia Tech or No. 15 seed Boston College. The contest will air at 6 p.m. EST on Raycom Sports.

Between the Lines

In addition to the women’s basketball loss at Notre Dame, the FSU beach volleyball team took part in the first intrasquad match. The FSU men’s golf team is tied for seventh at Querencia Cabo Collegiate. FSU women’s tennis fell at Georgia Tech, 5-2 while the men’s tennis team dropped a 4-3 decision to Texas A&M. FSU baseball completed a 3-game sweep of Samford with a 13-4 win. FSU softball completed the Mary Nutter Classic with a 2-1 win over UCLA and a 5-5 tie with Michigan.

On the Agenda

The FSU swimming and diving teams will compete in the ACC Championships in Atlanta. FSU’s men’s golf team continues the Querencia Cabo Collegiate. The women’s team will be in Texas for The Dickinson.

News and Notes

The ACC will announce players of the week for various sports.

FSU remained No. 2 in the Baseball America Poll and No. 3 in the D1Baseball.com Poll. FSU fell one spot to No. 10 in the Collegiate Baseball Poll. The NCBWA Poll will be released later.

FSU is up four spots to No. 15 in the AP Poll. The Seminoles moved up three spots to 17th in the USA Today Coaches Poll.

The FSU women remained eighth in the AP Poll.

Florida State pitcher Tyler Holton has been named the ACC’s Co-Pitcher of the Week after working seven shutout innings in Saturday’s 8-0 win over Samford.
