The Daily Nole — Feb. 20, 2017: FSU Softball Goes 4-0 in Challenge

Happy President’s Day, Florida State fans. For those of you who have the day off, enjoy. For those of you who don’t, we’ll help you through it by updating the news and notes section throughout the day.

Lead Story

Florida State finished the Big Ten/ACC Softball Challenge a perfect 4-0. After having to rally past Northwestern on Friday night, the Seminoles closed the challenge in Tallahassee with three straight shutouts.

After beating Northwestern 7-0 and Nebraska 9-0 on Saturday, FSU closed the 4-game challenge with an 8-0 victory over Nebraska on Sunday. Cali Harrod hit her third home run of the year in the victory while first baseman Alex Powers was a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with three doubles, four RBIs and a run scored. Jessica Burroughs allowed just a hit in five shutout innings while striking out nine to pick up the win.

With the victory, the Seminoles now sit at 10-0 on the year. FSU will host South Alabama on Tuesday.

Between the Lines

In addition to softball, the FSU men’s golf team finished fifth at the SunTrust Gator Invitational. FSU baseball beat Virginia Commonwealth 11-3 to give Mike Martin his 1,900th career win as head coach.

On the Agenda

FSU’s men’s basketball team plays host to Boston College. The contest begins at 7 p.m. EST and airs on ESPNU.

News and Notes

Florida State fell two spots in the latest AP men’s basketball poll to No. 19. The Seminoles also fell two spots in the USA Today Coaches Poll to No. 20.

After losing consecutive games, the FSU women fell from fourth to eight in the AP Poll.

Florida State remains No. 2 in the Baseball America Poll. FSU remained No. 3 in the D1Baseball.com Poll, ninth in the Collegiate Baseball Poll and fourth in the NCBWA Poll.

According to a report from Tomahawk Nation, former FSU starting center Ryan Hoefeld has left the program.

The ACC will name players of the week for various sports.
