The Daily Nole — Feb. 19, 2017: FSU Women Bounce Back, Hammer Clemson

Lead Story

After consecutive losses, FSU’s women’s basketball team bounced back with an emphatic 80-47 home win over Clemson on Saturday.

With leading scorer Shakayla Thomas nursing a shoulder injury, four different FSU players scored in double-figures. Ivey Slaughter and Brittany Brown each led the team with 14 points while Chatrice White and Ama Degbeon each finished with 10 points. White added a game-high 11 rebounds. Danielle Edwards scored 11 points to lead Clemson.

With the win, FSU improves to 24-4 and 12-2 in ACC play. The Seminoles will celebrate Senior Day on Thursday against Pittsburgh.

Between the Lines

FSU’s track and field teams competed in the UCS Invitational while the men’s golf finished the day in fifth at the SunTrust Gator Invitational. The FSU women’s tennis team notched wins over Air Force and Florida A&M. FSU baseball defeated Virginia Commonwealth 12-3. FSU softball collected shutout victories over Northwestern and Nebraska. FSU’s men’s basketball team fell at Pittsburgh, 80-66.

On the Agenda

FSU’s men’s golf team wraps up the SunTrust Gator Invitational on Sunday. Track and field wraps up the UCS Invitational. FSU baseball concludes a 3-game series against Virginia Commonwealth. That contest begins at 12:30 p.m. EST and airs on ACC Network Extra. The FSU softball teams wraps up the Big Ten/ACC Challenge against Nebraska in a contest that also airs on ACC Network Extra.

News and Notes

The Opening in Orlando begins takes place on Sunday.

FSU baseball took the season-opening series from Virginia Commonwealth, winning 11-3 on Sunday. It was the 1,900th win in the career of FSU head coach Mike Martin.
