Monday typically isn’t a crowd favorite, but a highly anticipated match-up for Florida State women’s basketball gives fans something to look forward to. The news and notes section of this post will be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

Florida State softball finished up a successful opening weekend, defeating the Marshall Thundering Herd 7-0 on Sunday afternoon to close out the Unconquered Invitational.

FSU shortstop Cali Harrod was the driving force behind the offense, tallying three hits that amounted to a double, triple, home run, and two RBIs. Starting pitcher Jessica Burroughs went for a little over three innings and only gave up two hits on the day.

The Seminoles swept all three of their opponents and won five straight games from Friday to Sunday, closing out the invitational with a victory in the rematch against Marshall. The two previous teams FSU beat were Lipscomb and Furman. The Seminoles outscored their opponents by an impressive 35-3 total.

Between the Lines

Highly-touted punter recruit Tommy Martin announced on Twitter that he would be joining Florida State football for the next four years. Martin is rated as a 5-star punter by both Chris Sailer Kicking and Kohl’s Football, meaning he is a Division I special teams prospect. He will presumably battle with incumbent Logan Tyler for the starting spot.

Fourth ranked women’s golf dominated at the Fifth Annual Florida State Match-Up at the Don Veller Seminole Golf Course. The Seminoles were the clear victors of the event, setting school records in both tournament score (837) and strokes under par (-27).

On the Agenda

Women’s basketball hosts the No. 8 Texas Longhorns (20-4) in a premier out-of-conference game on Monday night. The contest will be broadcast on ESPN2 and will start at 7 p.m. EST.

FSU swimming and diving heads to Atlanta for the ACC Championships. The events will be all day and will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra.

FSU was tied for fourth in the AP women’s basketball poll.

News and Notes

For any fans looking to go to the women’s basketball game: Monday is a “Paint it Pink” night, meaning all proceeds from the match-up will be donated to the Sharon Ewing Walker Breast Health Center at Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare.

Florida State men’s basketball ranks 17th in the latest AP poll. FSU fell to 18th in the USA Today Coaches Poll.
