Florida State’s 2017 softball season is off to a good start. As hosts of the 3-day Unconquered Invitational, the Seminoles went a perfect 5-0 to win the tournament.

The invitational started on Friday with a win over Lipscomb. The Seminoles went on to twice defeat both Furman and Marshall.

Meghan King was stellar, picking up three wins without yielding an earned run. Home runs were also common off FSU bats with third baseman Jessica Warren being the ringleader with three long-balls.

Here’s a look back at each of the five games:

FSU 13, Lipscomb 1 (5 innings)

A 9-run third inning highlighted by a grand slam off the bat of Jessica Warren did in Lipscomb to start the invitational. Alex Powers, the ACC’s reigning player of the year, scored three runs while Cali Harrod and Zoe Casas each plated a pair for the Seminoles. A first inning home run by Peyton Ward accounted for the only Lipscomb run.

FSU 5, Furman 1

Meghan King allowed just an unearned run on three hits to cap Florida State’s Friday. Warren homered for the second straight game while Carsyn Gordon finished with two RBIs. Alex Powers scored twice in the win. Kalie Hicks drove in the lone Furman run.

FSU 1, Marshall 0

A 4-run second and a 5-run sixth highlighted a big offensive day for Florida State. Jessica Burroughs allowed just a run on three hits to pick up the win. Ellie Cooper was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with two runs scored. Cali Harrod, who homered, and Dani Morgan each drove in three runs in the FSU victory. A Hannah Reynolds homer accounted for Furman’s only run.

FSU 7, Marshall 0

FSU scored three runs in the fifth inning and three more in the sixth to blow a pitcher’s duel wide open and take the Unconquered Invitational. Cali Harrod and Alex Powers each had three hits for the Seminoles. Harrod’s home run in the fourth inning got the scoring started before the late big innings. Harrod, Carsyn Gordon and Ellie Cooper all drove in two runs in the victory. Meghan King allowed just a hit in 2 1/3 innings of scoreless relief to pick up her third win of the weekend.
