Happy New Year, Florida State fans. Outside of the Under Armour All-American game, it should be a slow first day of 2017. We’ll keep you up to date on the latest by updating the news and notes section.

Lead Story

Piquing the interest of tight ends doesn’t seem to be a problem for Florida State. On Saturday, a 2018 New York prospect released his top 5 and the Seminoles are still alive.

Jeremy Ruckert, a 4-star prospect out of Lidenhurst, narrowed his list to FSU, Alabama, Michigan, Ohio State and Wisconsin. Lidenhurst is currently ranked the No. 77 overall prospect for 2018, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings, and the No. 3 tight end.

As for FSU in 2018, the Seminoles currently rank second behind only Penn State with six total commitments. None of them however, are tight ends. FSU does have two tight ends committed for 2017 in Alexander Marshall and Tre’ McKitty. McKitty will enroll early.

Between the Lines

In hoops, Florida State’s Dwayne Bacon hit a 3-pointer with two seconds left as No. 20 FSU upset 12th-ranked Virginia, 60-58.

On the Agenda

There are no FSU athletic events scheduled for Sunday.

News and Notes

Four Florida State players will play for Team Highlight in the Under Armour All-American game. They are cornerback Stanford Samuels III, safety Cyrus Fagan, defensive end Joshua Kaindoh and running back Khalan Laborn. The game in Orlando airs live at 1 p.m. EST on ESPN.
