The Daily Nole — Dec. 31, 2016: Thomas, Nnadi to Return in 2017

Happy New Year’s Eve, Florida State fans. Considering the events of Friday, it probably is a pretty happy one. We’ll keep you up to date on the latest in FSU athletics by updating the news and notes section.

Florida State fans had to have liked what they saw from the defense on Friday night in the Capital One Orange Bowl and the good news if they’ll get to see more of it next year. Following a 33-32 win over No. 6 Michigan on Friday, both linebacker Matthew Thomas and defensive tackle Derrick Nnadi announced they would return for a senior year.

Thomas was one of the defensive stars for FSU in the victory, finishing with a game-high 15 tackles and 3.5 tackles for loss. Nnadi recorded five tackles and a half-sack in the win.

Roderick Johnson, a junior tackle, and receiver Travis Rudolph both said they were not ready to make a decision on whether or not to declare for the NFL Draft. Junior running back Dalvin Cook is expected to make the jump.

Between the Lines

A 12-yard touchdown pass from Deondre Francois to Nyqwan Murray with 36 seconds remaining lifted FSU to a 33-32 victory over Michigan in the Capital One Orange Bowl on Friday night.

On the Agenda

FSU’s men’s basketball team will visit No. 12 Virginia. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. EST and the game will air on ESPNU.

Senior quarterback Sean Maguire was FSU’s sod captain in Friday’s Orange Bowl win over Michigan.

FSU running back Dalvin Cook will forego his senior season and enter the 2017 NFL Draft.

Florida State’s Dwayne Bacon hit a 3-pointer with two seconds left as No. 20 FSU upset 12th-ranked Virginia, 60-58.
