The Daily Nole — Dec. 14, 2016: Florida With Stacked Slate of FBS Coaches

Jeff Romance/FSU athletics

Happy hump day, Florida State fans. It’s another slow FSU athletic day, but we’ll keep you posted on the latest by updating the news and notes section throughout the day.

Lead Story

As always, the end of the college football season has brought about a coaching carousel and in the state of Florida, three of the seven FBS programs have new head coaches and all are fairly accomplished.

Down south, Butch Davis has been tabbed to head the Florida International program while Lane Kiffin has been given an opportunity to be a head coach again at Florida Atlantic. In Tampa, former Louisville and Texas head coach Charlie Strong is the new head coach at South Florida.

Given all the new faces, FSU head coach Jimbo Fisher has had a longer tenure than the six other coaches combined. When you look at the Sunshine State’s seven FBS head coaches however, all have won an FBS national championship as either a head coach, assistant or player.

2017 should certainly be an interesting season in the state of Florida.

News and Notes

Former FSU linebacker Nick Moody has been promoted to the Washington Redskins’ active roster, giving FSU 44 players in the NFL. That’s tied for the most in the league from any school.

Four FSU players were honored by TopDrawer Soccer on Wednesday. Cassie Miller was named the nation’s top goalkeeper. Kirsten Crowley, Deyna Castellanos and Malia Berkely were also honored.

Former FSU quarterback De’Andre Johnson is headed to Florida Atlantic. Johnson was dismissed from FSU prior to the 2015 season after being seen by surveillance punching a woman at a Tallahassee bar.

FSU defensive end DeMarcus Walker and running back Dalvin Cook were named first-team All-Americans by the American Football Coaches Association. The selections mean Walker is a Consensus All-American and Cook is a Unanimous All-American. Cornerback Tarvarus McFadden and tackle Roderick Johnson were each named to the second team.

FSU volleyball outside hitter Milica Kubura was named an AVCA honorable mention All-American on Wednesday.

Former FSU quarterback Jameis Winston and the woman who accused him of rape, Erica Kinsman have both agreed to drop civil lawsuits. Kinsman previously settled with FSU for $950,000.
