Lead Story

After a thrilling comeback win over rival Florida on Saturday, Florida State volleyball has headed north to Madison, Wisconsin looking for four match victories to take home its first national championship. The first opponent standing in the Seminoles’ way is No. 6 national seed Stanford who FSU will see in an NCAA Tournament regional semifinal on Friday.

Stanford at 23-7, has reached this point with straight-set victories over Denver and Boise State. 6-6 freshman Kathryn Plummer leads the Cardinal with 371 kills this season and was the AVCA Freshman of the Year for the Pacific North Region. Senior Inky Ajanaku is also very good up front. Freshman Morgan Hentz leads the team in digs.

For the Seminoles, Katie Horton has been a double-double machine this season while Milica Kubura and Mara Green provide a very good front line. Cecelie Woie, a junior libero, leads the team with 479 digs this season. FSU comes in with a 26-5 record, but hasn’t advanced past the regional semifinal round since 2011.

Friday’s match begins at 4:30 p.m. EST and will air on ESPN3. The winner of the match will move on to face either Ohio State or host Wisconsin.
