Up until the Orange Bowl and the start of conference play for Florida State’s basketball teams, the days will be mostly slow for a while. We’ll keep you up to date on the latest in FSU athletics by updating the news and notes section of this post.

Lead Story

Despite another stellar season, Florida State running back Dalvin Cook will again miss out on a trip to New York City. The finalists for the Heisman Trophy were announced Monday and Cook was not among them.

Going to New York instead will be Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson, Louisville quarterback Lamar Jackson, Michigan linebacker Jabrill Peppers and Oklahoma’s Baker Mayfield, a quarterback, and Dede Westbrook, a wide receiver.

For the year, Cook ranks sixth nationally with 1,620 rushing yards and 18 rushing touchdowns. Cook ranks second in both of those categories among Power 5 backs.

It is worth pointing out that Cook has more rushing yards and rushing touchdowns than Westbrook has receiving yards and touchdown receptions. Peppers has just 66 total tackles, 13 for loss, three sacks, a punt return for a touchdown, 170 yards of offense and three offensive touchdowns. The Heisman Trophy will be awarded on Saturday.
