Splendid Florida State defense seems to be becoming a theme again. For the third straight game on Sunday, the Seminoles held an opponent to under 33 percent shooting from the field in a 67-48 victory over George Washington in the BB&T Classic in Washington D.C.

The Colonials shot less than 23 percent from the field in the loss.

Even without freshman phenom Jonathan Isaac, who entered the day averaging more than 15 points and a team-high 7.3 rebounds per game, the Seminoles dominated from the game’s early moments. Isaac missed the game with a hip flexor.

After trading 5-0 runs to start the game, FSU (7-1) went on a 10-2 run and never looked back. Florida State led 35-19 at the break and by as many as 35 in the second half. George Washington (5-4) closed the game on an 18-2 run to make the contest look less lopsided.

Xavier Rathan-Mayes led FSU with 11 points, six rebounds and five assists. His backup, C.J. Walker, scored 11 points off the bench and added three steals in the win. Leading scorer Dwayne Bacon finished with 10 points and six boards.

Forward Kevin Marfo was the only player to score in double-figures for the Colonials with a game-high 18 points. Leading scorer Tyler Cavanaugh was held to just eight points on 2-for-9 shooting.

FSU will be back in action at home on Tuesday night against Southern Mississippi. The Colonials will visit Temple on Wednesday.
