Florida State’s NCAA Tournament got off to a strong start on Friday in Gainesville as the Seminoles rallied from a first set loss to beat Cincinnati, 20-25, 25-14, 25-23, 25-23 and advance to the round of 32.

After a dominant second set, FSU (25-5) won a pair of closely contested sets to take the match. Things seemed to be destined for a decisive fifth set midway through the fourth as the Seminoles fell behind 10-5 before outscoring the Bearcats 20-13 to end the set.

Katie Horton had the kill for Florida State that ultimately put the match away. Horton finished with 17 kills and 26 digs — both team-highs. Cecilie Woie and Brianne Burkert had 14 and 10 kills, respectively, in the win.

Jordan Thompson finished with a match-high 28 kills to lead Cincinnati (22-10), whose season comes to an end. Thompson added 13 kills while Lindsey Dinkelacker topped the Bearcats in that category with 14.

The Seminoles move on to face either Alabama State or No. 11 national seed and regional host, Florida.
