The Daily Nole — Nov. 30, 2016: Brewster to Stay at FSU?

FSU athletics

Happy hump day, Florida State fans. Again, the FSU athletic schedule will be very light, but we’ll keep you updated on the latest in FSU athletics. The news and notes section of this post will be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

Florida State tight ends coach and recruiting coordinator Tim Brewster is the latest member of the coaching staff to be rumored to be heading elsewhere. Recent reports claim that Brewster, a former head coach at Minnesota, is being sought by Texas and new head coach Tom Herman.

Best known for his ability to recruit, Brewster has been at FSU since 2013 and has helped the Seminoles land a number of high-profile prospects — mostly from South Florida. Notable “gets” for Brewster include 5-star prospects Dalvin Cook and Ermon Lane. In recent years, Brewster has had some success in the state of Texas, recruiting tight end Mavin Saunders and linebacker Dontavious Jackson — both Houston prospects.

On Tuesday, Brewster took to Twitter in what appeared to be an effort to affirm his commitment to remaining at FSU:

What happens from here remains to be seen, but the Seminoles would love to see Brewster stick around for as long as possible. According to 247Sports, Brewster was among the nation’s top 10 recruiters in 2016.

Between the Lines

There were no FSU athletic events scheduled for Tuesday.

On the Agenda

FSU’s women’s basketball team will visit Minnesota in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. The contest begins at 7 p.m. and will air on the Big Ten Network.

News and Notes

The ACC/Big Ten Challenge is even 4-4 after two days of action.

Five FSU soccer players were named NSCAA All-Southeast Region.

FSU senior defensive end DeMarcus Walker was named the ACC’s Defensive Player of the Year on Wednesday. Walker is tied for the nation’s lead with 15 sacks.
