Happy Monday, Florida State fans. Judging from what happened over the weekend, it probably is a happy one. We’ll help get you through the week. The news and notes section of this post will be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

After four straight wins to close the 2016 season and consecutive losses by Louisville, Florida State is now in position to perhaps play for a New Year’s Six bowl.

Both Jerry Palm of CBS Sports and Bill Bender of the Sporting News have the Seminoles headed to the Orange Bowl to take on Michigan. Jason Kirk of SB Nation however, isn’t convinced. Kirk still believes Louisville’s 63-20 win over FSU on Sept. 17 will be enough to offset the late season struggles.

At the release of the traditional polls on Sunday, the Seminoles were ranked higher than Louisville in each. FSU was ranked 12th in both polls while Louisville is 16th in the AP Poll and 15th in the Amway Coaches Poll.

The College Football Playoff rankings will be unveiled on Tuesday. Assuming Clemson defeats Virginia Tech in the ACC Championship and cements a spot in the College Football Playoff, the next highest ranked ACC team would earn a bid to a New Year’s Six bowl.

Between the Lines

There were no FSU athletic events scheduled for Sunday.

On the Agenda

FSU’s men’s basketball team will host Minnesota in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. The game begins at 7 p.m. EST and will air on ESPNU.

They included running back Dalvin Cook, tackle Roderick Johnson, defensive end DeMarcus Walker and cornerback Tarvarus McFadden. 4-star center Ikechukwu Obiagu, a top 50 2017 basketball prospect, committed to Florida State on Monday. Obiagu, a 7-0, 230-pound prospect, is currently ranked as the nation’s fourth ranked center and No. 47 overall prospect.
