Happy Sunday, Florida State fans and judging from what happened Saturday night, it probably is a pretty good Sunday. We’ll help get you through the day. The news and notes section of this post will be updated.

Lead Story

While Florida State was taking it to rival Florida on the gridiron, the FSU women’s basketball team also had a very nice victory. In the final of the Paradise Jam in the U.S. Virgin Islands, the Seminoles beat Michigan 76-62 to win the tournament.

Shakayla Thomas and Imani Wright each scored 19 points to lead four FSU players in double-figures scoring. Thomas added a game-high 11 rebounds in the win while Ivey Slaughter chipped in with 15 points and Leticia Romero, 11. Katlelen Flaherty scored 18 points to pace Michigan.

The Wolverines trailed by just five after three quarters, but were outscored 23-14 over the final frame. The Seminoles used a 10-3 run during the fourth quarter to seize control of the contest. FSU improves to 6-1 with the win and will visit Minnesota on Wednesday in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.

Between the Lines

Aside from the FSU women’s victory on the hardwood Saturday, the FSU football team defeated rival Florida for the fourth straight time, 31-13. Running back Dalvin Cook rushed for 153 yards and a touchdown while DeMarcus Walker added two sacks in the FSU victory.

On the Agenda

There are no FSU athletic events scheduled for Sunday.

News and Notes

FSU tackle Roderick Johnson was honored as the ACC’s top offensive lineman with the Jacobs Blocking Trophy. It’s the second straight year Johnson has won the award.

FSU moved up to No. 12 in each of the two traditional polls on Sunday. The Seminoles were 15th last week in the AP Poll and 14th in the Amway Coaches Poll.

Saturday’s victory over Florida marked the first time since 1980 that a team failed to convert a single third down against FSU. The Gators were 0-for-12.

FSU President John Thrasher plans to tweak the contract of head football coach Jimbo Fisher. Fisher turned down about $1.5 million in additional salary from LSU to stay with Florida State last week.
