Lead Story

In a match-up of top 25 basketball teams, the 10th-ranked Florida State women handled No. 25 Gonzaga in the Paradise Jam at the U.S. Virgin Islands on Friday night, 87-69.

Guard Leticia Romero scored 25 points on 10-for-14 shooting while Imani Wright added 15 points with a 6-for-11 day that included a 3-for-5 effort from beyond the 3-point arc. Shakayla Thomas chipped in with 14 points and a team-high seven rebounds. Brittany Brown added 11 in the win.

The Seminoles shot 54 percent from the field for night and trailed only briefly in the game’s first two minutes. Jill Barta scored 20 points to lead the Bulldogs. With the win, FSU moves on to Michigan in the Paradise Jam final on Saturday.

Between the Lines

Florida State’s men’s basketball team also won,defeating Illinois in the NIT Season Tip-Off third place game in Brooklyn, 72-61. The FSU volleyball team defeated Georgia Tech in five sets, 25-17, 25-22, 16-25, 23-25, 15-13. Katie Horton had 14 kills to lead the Seminoles.

On the Agenda

FSU women’s basketball will take on Michigan in the Paradise Jam final at 8 p.m. EST. The game will stream on FloHoops. On the gridiron, FSU hosts rival Florida. That one kicks off at 8 p.m. EST and airs on ABC.

News and Notes

According to reports, Florida State head coach Jimbo Fisher turned down $6.8 million from LSU to remain at FSU.

Florida State defeated Florida on Saturday night, 31-13. It was the Seminoles’ fourth straight win in the series.
