The Daily Nole — Nov. 22, 2016: Dalvin Cook a Walker Award Finalist

Lead Story

A memorable few days for Florida State running back Dalvin Cook got a little more memorable on Monday as the junior was named one of three finalists for the Doak Walker Award, which annually goes to the nation’s best back.

Cook was joined by Texas’ D’Onta Foreman and San Diego State’s Donnel Pumphrey. For the year, Cook has rushed for 1,467 yards and 17 touchdowns. In FSU’s 45-14 win over Syracuse on Saturday, Cook rushed for 225 yards and four touchdowns, passing Warrick Dunn as the school’s all-time leading rusher and tying Greg Allen’s career record for rushing touchdowns.

The Walker Award will be given out on Dec. 8. No FSU player has ever won that piece of hardware.

News and Notes

Florida will be without eight starters on Saturday against FSU. Notable injuries include safety Marcus Maye, quarterback Luke Del Rio, linebackers Jarrad Davis and Alex Anzalone.

Florida State unveiled its 2017 baseball scheduled on Tuesday. The Seminoles open the season at home against Virginia Commonwealth on Feb. 17.

FSU running back Dalvin Cook was named TaxSlayer Bowl Player of the Week after rushing for 225 yards and four touchdowns in Saturday’s win over Syracuse.

Notable changes were made to the FSU depth chart for Saturday’s game against Florida.

Funeral services for Monk Bonasorte will be at Doak Campbell Stadium at 3 p.m. EST on Monday.

FSU moved up three spots in this week’s College Football Playoff rankings from 17th to No. 14.
