The Daily Nole — Nov. 7, 2016: FSU Volleyball Falls to UNC

It’s Monday, Florida State fans. While many of you are heading back to work, it was a pretty good weekend for FSU athletics and this week, we only have to wait until Friday to see the Seminoles back on the gridiron. The news and notes section of this post will be updated.

Lead Story

After an 11-1 start in ACC play, Florida State’s volleyball team has now dropped consecutive 5-set heartbreakers. After falling to N.C. State, the Seminoles lost at home to North Carolina on Sunday, 25-13, 25-21, 11-25, 22-25, 13-15.

After winning the first two sets, the Seminoles dropped the final three to lose the match. FSU held a 13-10 lead in the final set, but North Carolina scored the final five points to run away with the victory.

Katie Horton and Christina Ambrose each recorded double-doubles for FSU in the loss. Horton finished with 10 kills and 13 digs while Ambrose had 15 kills and 11 digs. Cecilie Woie recorded a match-high 23 digs in the loss. Taylor Leath finished with 26 kills and 13 digs to lead the Tar Heels.

With the loss, FSU falls to 18-5 and 11-3 in ACC play. The next four matches for the Seminoles are on the road, beginning with Boston College on Friday night.

Between the Lines

While FSU couldn’t beat the Tar Heels on the volleyball court, FSU soccer defeated North Carolina on penalty kicks Sunday to win its fourth straight ACC championship. FSU women’s tennis team took home three titles at the Seminole All-Conference Showdown on Sunday. Behind 20 points from Shakayla Thomas, the FSU women’s basketball team defeated St. Francis in an exhibition, 91-38.

On the Agenda

There are no FSU athletic events scheduled for Monday.

News and Notes

Florida State’s Kirsten Crowley, Megan Connolly, Cassie Miller and Natalia Kuikka all made the All-ACC Soccer Tournament team. Kuikka was named the MVP of the tournament.

FSU soccer will host Samford in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday at 2 p.m. EST.

Florida State quarterback Deondre Francois, wide receiver Nyqwan Murray and defensive end DeMarcus Walker were all honored as ACC Players of the Week.

A start time and network FSU’s Nov. 19 visit to Syracuse was 6-day optioned by the ACC on Monday.

FSU wide receiver Jesus Wilson, a senior, will undergo season-ending foot surgery, head coach Jimbo Fisher said Monday.
