The Daily Nole — Nov. 5, 2016: Women’s Tennis Goes 4-0 in Singles

It’s gameday, Florida State fans, but before you watch N.C. State host FSU, catch up on what else is happening in FSU athletics. The news and notes will be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

Day 1 of the Seminoles All-Conference Showdown couldn’t have gone much better for Florida State’s women’s tennis team on Friday — at least not when it came singles play.

FSU went a perfect 4-0 in singles matches at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center on Friday. Julia Mikulski, Nandini Das, Daniela Schippers and Andrea Garcia all picked up wins.

The Seminoles split their doubles matches on Friday. The Seminole All-Conference Showdown will resume on Saturday.

Between the Lines

Outside of women’s tennis, the FSU soccer team defeated Clemson 1-0 in the ACC Tournament semifinals. For the men’s tennis team, Guy Iradukunda was defeated by Stanford’s Tom Fawcet in a consolation match at the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships in New York.

In Fort Myers, the men’s swimming and diving team currently has a big lead over Florida Southern. The women’s team leads Florida Southern and West Florida, but is currently tied with Florida Gulf Coast. The FSU volleyball team fell at home to N.C. State, 25-23, 25-21, 17-25, 22-25, 15-8. Katie Horton finished with 14 kills and 13 digs in the loss.

On the Agenda

The FSU women’s tennis team will continue the Seminole All-Conference Showdown while the men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams will resume competition in Fort Myers. On the football field, No. 22 FSU will take on N.C. State. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST and will air on ESPNU.

News and Notes

Former FSU running back Antone Smith suffered a season-ending injury in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ loss to the Atlanta Falcons on Thursday night.

Florida State scored the game’s final 14 points to rally past N.C. State on Saturday night, 24-20.
