The Daily Nole — Oct. 29, 2016: FSU Volleyball Sails Past Louisville

It’s gameday, Florida State fans. Before you get around to enjoying Saturday night’s game, check out what happened Friday both in FSU athletics and at The Daily Nole. The news and notes section of this post will be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

Florida State volleyball dropped the first set at Louisville on Friday night and was tested again in the third, but the Seminoles managed to down the Cardinals in four sets, 23-25, 25-18, 29-27, 25-10.

Katie Horton and Christina Ambrose each had double-doubles for FSU in the win. Horton finished with 10 kills and a match-high 20 digs while Ambrose had 12 kills to go along with 10 digs. Milica Kubura led the Seminoles with 14 kills. Melanie McHenry had 14 kills to lead Louisville while Molly Sauer and Gabbie Wiley each had 17 digs.

After letting a 4-point lead slip away in the third set, Louisville had a pair of set points, but the Seminoles scored the final three points in the set before running away with the match-clinching fourth set. FSU doubled up on the Cardinals when it came to blocks, 12-6. With the win, FSU improved 17-3 and 10-1 in ACC play. The Seminoles will be in action again on Sunday at Notre Dame.

Between the Lines

FSU softball held a scrimmage before taking on Thomas University in an exhibition on Friday. At the ACC cross country championships, the FSU men finished fifth and the FSU women finished ninth. Syracuse won on the men’s side while N.C. State topped the women.

On the Agenda

No. 12 Florida State will host No. 3 Clemson on the gridiron at 8 p.m. EST. The game will air on ABC.

News and Notes

Saturday will be FSU’s 100th ACC home game. The Seminoles are 86-13 at Doak Campbell Stadium since joining the conference in 1992.
