The Daily Nole — Oct. 26, 2016: FSU Women’s Golf Dominates Cardinal Cup

Happy hump day, Florida State fans. The Seminoles are just three days away from taking on No. 3 Clemson, but there is plenty going on with FSU athletics in the mean time. The news and notes section of this post will be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

The Florida State women’s golf team blew away the competition at the Cardinal Cup in Louisville, winning the 3-day tournament by 22 strokes over second-place Wisconsin. FSU led by just four strokes after Monday over the Badgers, but shot a 283 on Tuesday to Wisconsin’s 301.

As a team, the Seminoles shot +12 for the tournament. Morgane Metraux and Matilda Castren were the top finishers for FSU as both finished second overall for the tournament.

FSU won’t be in action again until the Florida Challenge on Jan.

Outside of the golf victory, there were no other FSU athletic events.

There are no FSU athletic events scheduled for Wednesday.

News and Notes

FSU soccer goalkeeper Cassie Miller was named ACC Defensive Player of the Week after helping the Seminoles pitch consecutive 1-0 shutouts of Duke and Louisville.

4-star linebacker Willie Gay announced his decommitment from Ole Miss on Monday and will visit FSU this weekend.

Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney said during Wednesday’s ACC teleconference that running back Wayne Gallman will likely play against FSU. Gallman has been fighting concussion symptoms.

According to USA Today, FSU head coach Jimbo Fisher is the fifth highest paid in the country. Fisher earns $5.25 million annually.
