The Daily Nole — Oct. 24, 2016: FSU Soccer Blanks Louisville on Senior Day

It might be Monday, Florida State fans, but it stands to be a very good one. Multiple FSU programs will continue strong efforts and a game time will be announced for the Nov. 5 contest between Florida State and N.C. State. The news and notes section of this post will be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

Florida State closed out its home soccer slate on Sunday with a 1-0 shutout of Louisville. After more than 80 minutes of scoreless soccer, Megan Connolly found the back of the net with a header on a goal assisted by Kristen McFarland and Olivia Bergau.

Cassie Miller, the FSU goalkeeper, finished with three saves to preserve her 12th shutout of the season. With the win, the Seminoles improved to 12-2-2 and 6-1-2 in ACC play. FSU also extended its home unbeaten streak to 32 matches.

The Seminoles will wrap up the regular season on Thursday at North Carolina.

Between the Lines

FSU softball took on Florida International in a scrimmage in Hollywood, Florida. Both the Seminoles’ men’s and women’s tennis teams competed in the ITA Southeast Regionals. On the men’s side, Guy Iradukunda advanced to the final. The FSU women’s golf team currently leads the Cardinal Cup in Louisville by one stroke over Kentucky.

On the Agenda

FSU’s Guy Iradukunda will face Georgia’s Wayne Montgomery in the ITA Southeast Regionals singles final on Monday. The FSU women’s golf team will continue play at the Cardinal Cup.

News and Notes

Florida State opens as a 3-point underdog against No. 3 Clemson. The teams will meet in Tallahassee on Saturday.

A start time for Florida State’s Nov. 5 trip to N.C. State was 6-day optioned by the ACC on Monday. That means a start time and network will be announced on Sunday.

The ACC will name players of the week for various sports.

Chris Fowler, Kirk Herbstreit and Sam Ponder will call Saturday’s contest between FSU and Clemson, which will air on ABC.

Florida State head coach Jimbo Fisher said Monday that there is no timetable for safety Derwin James’ return. James has been out since tearing his meniscus in the Sept. 10 victory over Charleston Southern.
