The Daily Nole — Oct. 23, 2016: FSU Tops Florida in Softball Exhibition

Clemson week has finally arrived for Florida State fans, but that’s a whole six days away. Keep it here for a busy Sunday. The news and notes section will be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

It was only an exhibition, but Florida State got the better of rival Florida in the Rising Stars Softball Tournament in Fort Lauderdale by a 3-2 score. Jessica Burroughs picked up the win for the Seminoles, beating Florida’s Kelly Barnhill.

FSU led most of the way. taking a 3-0 lead into the bottom of the 6th inning, where the Gators answered with a pair of runs. The Seminoles were able to keep Florida off the scoreboard in the seventh to preserve the win.

Saturday’s contest was one of eight scrimmages that FSU will play this fall. Florida State will take on Florida International at 11 a.m. EST on Sunday on the Seminole Reservation in Hollywood, Florida.

Between the Lines

The FSU men’s and women’s tennis teams continued play at the ITA Southeast Regionals on Saturday. The men’s team had three singles players advance to the quarterfinals.

On the Agenda

In addition to the softball scrimmage against FIU, the women’s tennis team will continue the ITA Southeast Regionals for FSU in Gainesville. The FSU women’s golf team will be in Louisville for the Cardinal Classic while the FSU soccer team will host Louisville for Senior Day. That match will begin at 1 p.m. EST and air on ACC Network Extra.

News and Notes

Florida State moved up one spot in each of the two traditional polls on Sunday. The Seminoles now sit at No. 12 in the AP Poll and 14th in the Amway Coaches Poll.
