Happy Friday, Florida State fans. There may be no game this week on the gridiron, but another one of FSU’s marquee programs notched a big win on Thursday night and others are in action Friday. The news and notes section of this post will be updated throughout the day.
Lead Story
After more than 97 minutes of scoreless soccer on Thursday night, Kaycie Tillman’s goal in sudden death lifted Florida State to a 1-0 victory over No. 4 Duke. Olivia Bergau and Malia Berkely assisted on the lone score of the night as the Seminoles earned a statement win.
Goalkeeper Cassie Miller finished with five saves on the night for the Seminoles while Duke’s E.J. Proctor had just one save before allowing the game-winner. FSU managed just five shots on goal compared to Duke’s 17, but got the win to improve to 11-2-2 and 5-1-2 in ACC action. FSU will play its final home match of the regular season on Sunday against Louisville.
Between the Lines
FSU men’s tennis was in action at the ITA Southeast Regional Championships. Rana Roop Singh Bhullar advanced to the qualifying round for FSU.
On the Agenda
The FSU women’s tennis team will be in action at the ITA Southeast Regional Championships in Gainesville on Friday. The FSU volleyball team will also visit Virginia at 7 p.m. EST.
News and Notes
In Thursday’s win over Duke, Mami Yamaguchi became the first FSU soccer player to have her number retired.
Match-ups were set for the ACC/Big Ten Softball Challenge. The Seminoles, who host part of the challenge, will face Northwestern on Feb. 17 and 18 and Nebraska on Feb. 18 and 19. All games will be in Tallahassee.
